Joe Smith
VP of Business Development
Joe joins Impel with over 20 years of corporate strategy and business development experience. He most recently served as Vice President (VP) of Business Development & Strategy at OncoSec Medical Inc., a publicly traded cancer immunotherapy biotechnology company. Previously, Joe was a co-founder, SVP of Corporate and Business Development, or independent transaction advisor, for start-up biotechnology companies across several therapeutic areas including oncology, ophthalmology and infectious diseases. He has also held senior corporate and business development roles at other publicly traded specialty pharmaceutical companies including EyePoint Pharmaceuticals, Inc., as well as at private equity-backed companies Adare Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Aton Pharma, Inc.
In addition to industry-side merger and acquisition and licensing experience, he has an extensive background in management consulting and biotechnology equity research.
Joe received an M.S. and B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and received a Certification in Corporate Finance and Accounting from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
